Chiropractic Care in Waukesha

'An  integrated approach, but not the only approach'
- Dr. Jamie

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the affects that those disorders have on general health. It is used most frequently to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms and legs, headaches and general wellness.

Doctors of Chiropractic practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnositc skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as "spinal manipulation,' also called "chiropractic adjustment". The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually (by hand) applying a controlled force to joints that have been hypomobile - or restricted in movement - as a result of tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkard position with poor spinal posture for an extened period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues helps to restore mobiility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, allowing the tissue to heal properly. In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic may be the primary method of treatment. When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving musculoskeletal  aspects associated with the condition.

Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause discomfort. However, patients may experience mild soreness or achiness following treatment - similar to exercise - that will typically resolve within 12-24 hours.

Chi·ro·prac·tic: ˈkīrəˌpraktik/ - noun

A system of complementary medicine based on the diagnosis and manipulative treatment of misalignments of the joints, especially those of the spinal column, which are held to cause other disorders by affecting the nerves, muscles, and organs.

Derived from the Greek words,  cheir - hand - and  praktkos - practice.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.
What is an Adjustment?

An adjustment is a High-velocity, low amplitude thrust to a specific area of the spine or other joint in the body. It is a targeted technique which emphasizes speed to employ a therapeutic force that is brief in duration and travels within the joint's anatomic range of motion to elicit release of motion restrictions

What is Chiropractic Practice?

The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily, but not exculsive to the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

The practice of chiropractic includes:
  • Establishing a diagnosis
  • Facilitating neurological and biomechanical integrity through appropriate chiropractic case management
  • Promoting health
